I Am A Church Member Review

I Am A Church Member: Discovering the Attitude that makes the Difference

Thom S. Rainer

null

Thom S. Rainer's book I Am A Church Member is a fantastic guide for how to be an active member of your church and community in an agae where more and more people seem disillusioned with institutions of faith. Rainer's book focuses on the idea that one's attitude toward being a member of a church, and what that truly means, can greatly improve our faith and contribution to the church. To paraphrase President Kennedy, Rainer's book asks us to think not what our church can do for us, but what we can do for our church.

But this book does more than simply tell you how to act, as it encourages the reader to form a contract with themselves to be better. Each chapter ends with questions for the reader to answer for themselves and a small pledge the reader can actually sign & date. This is not a book for someone to read and place on the shelf to forget, but a book that asks for your participation in improving yourself and your church. It is a quick read and I highly recommend it for everyone!

Love Without Limits Review

Love Without Limits: Jesus’ Radical Vision for Love with No Exceptions

Jacqueline A. Bussie, Author of Outlaw Christian

null

Jacqueline A. Bussie’s book Love Without Limits illustrates the true vastness of Jesus’ love for every person. Providing a number of examples from her own life and the lives of others, Bussie shows all the different ways that Jesus calls upon us to love our neighbor. She challenges the mainstream interpretations of many passages from the Gospel, showing them in a new light that displays Jesus’ capacity for a vast agape love. Bussie’s book illuminates the message that Jesus wants us all to love the people who we do not agree with or refuse to call us by our name. It even reminds us that “To love thy neighbor as thyself” implies that you should treat yourself with love as well. Jacqueline Bussie’s book is accessible for readers of all levels and viewpoints, and stands as a testament to faith defined by love. I highly recommend giving it a read. It is not too long, and has the chance of changing your outlook on love for the better.
